Hej Master thesis student,
Do you want to furnish the future to make room for everyone?
With us, you can feel at home at work while sharing that feeling with millions of people around the world. We encourage you to stand up for yourself and others, creating an environment where everyone feels welcome. We invite you to open new doors, embrace mistakes, and grow from them. As our Master thesis student, you’ll have many opportunities to try things you’ve never done before.
We are now looking for a student who wants to write their Master thesis at IKEA of Sweden from mid-January to June 2026. Your key assignment is to explore how machine learning and computer vision can be used to validate IKEA communication templates; ensuring that elements such as size, language, fonts, and positioning follow required standards and simplify the work of our teams.
Your new assignment
ML-Driven template validation: enabling accuracy, efficiency, and smarter workflows. Your thesis will focus on creating a reliable and explainable ML-validation pipeline that can automatically classify whether a template is compliant or not while identifying which elements failed and why.
Key activities
- Building a dataset of both compliant and non-compliant templates, based on, for example, size, length, language, position, fonts, printer type, DPI, and editing tools.
- Train a computer-vision model to classify templates and understand the reasons behind invalid outputs.
- Exploring the use of cursor/generative AI for code-development as part of the process.
- Designing a frontend or dashboard showing failed elements and relevant statistics to support manual testers.
- Evaluating which template elements influence validation accuracy and model performance.
The deliverables
- A working ML-based validation service exposed through an API, demonstrating an end-to-end flow where a template is sent via an API request and the system returns a “valid/invalid” response.
- A dashboard or visualization tool highlighting failed elements and statistical patterns.
- A final thesis report written in English, explaining the methodology, model performance, and recommendations for further development.
What we’d like you to bring to the table
We think that you…
• Are curious about machine learning, computer vision, and automation.
• Have an analytical and independent mindset, eager to explore real-world data challenges.
• Are interested in how design, layout, and technology intersect in large-scale workflows.
• Are probably studying Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Interaction Design, or a similar field.
• Are fluent in English.
