Development Center Central Europe, located in Warsaw is affiliated to the IKEA of Sweden. Our assignment is to develop great products at lower costs with speed, quality and relevance, it’s at the center of all that we do in DevC Warsaw; our daily job. We strengthen our core assignment of providing a relevant and unique IKEA product range that reflects the different needs and desires of people around the world, at prices so low that as many people as possible will be able to afford them.
Job description
The Packaging Solution Engineer is an important player in the team, with responsibility to work with product development, adaptation and improvements, finding solutions and explore new ideas. This is not just a way of saying, the PSE is one of the roles in our product development teams who is developing, evaluating, and improving packaging solutions, both physical and in CAD. You will be doing this by developing the packaging solutions for our products from concept sketch to final product. You will develop and maintain the digital models on a detail level, as well as securing that the packaging protects and sell our products though out our value chain all the way to our customers home. You will work closely with other Engineers in the product development teams, as well as have a close dialogue with the purchasing organization and suppliers to secure successful implementation. It will be highly rewarding work. And yes, it will be a lot of fun!
About You
Preferable you have a university degree within Engineering, and experiences within packaging or from the packaging industry. You have a curiosity and interest in working with furniture products and finding optimized packaging solutions for our full value chain. An innovative thinker with a passion for working together in diverse teams.
Your knowledge and experience of 3D drawings and SolidWorks/other CAD software is a highly prioritized merit. We see a benefit if you have some experience in working with product development and/or product documentation. You work in a structured way based on good analytical skills and find it interesting to work within a network of many different stakeholders, both internal and external ones. Furthermore, you have strong communication skills and build good relations based on trust. Development Centre is a truly global environment, with colleagues from all over the world and you therefore need to be fluent in English both verbal and written.
Responsible to:
- Lead development of costumer friendly, total low cost and sustainable packaging solutions for the IKEA range.
- Apply packaging design for efficient manufacturing and logistics in an omni-channel landscape.
- Manage potential safety and quality risks during the development of the product and the packaging solution.
- Test and verify the packaging solution during the development phase according to IKEA packaging requirements
- Secure creation of packaging documentation according to IKEA standards and guidelines. • Guide and support development partners from a range perspective on packaging solutions.
- Identify potential packaging improvement and give data-based input to action planning, supply chain setup, sales solutions and selling patterns.
- Actively capture and share learnings connected to packing solutions throughout IKEA and to partners.
Qualification
- Packaging engineering such as construction, tolerance setting, drawing technique, models and production.
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs (mandatory-SolidWorks; preferable-Blender (3D max), CLO) and product lifecycle management systems (preferable Windchill).
- Product documentation and verification methods.
- An ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality and reliability.
- Translate project concept, ideas into packaging solutions.
- Ability to work in multiple projects and development teams in parallel.
- Work in teams and make things happen by involving and engaging others.
