We are Inter IKEA, the Franchisor in the IKEA Franchise ecosystem. We are also on a journey to consolidate the digital capabilities and business processes at Retail Concept (one of the pillars of Inter IKEA) across the leadership areas; IKEA Retail Experience, Brand & Marketing, Learning and Development, and Expansion.
A journey that needs passionate people who embrace change and development, dare to ask questions, and want to make a difference. If that sounds like you, come and join us. Together, we can achieve great things for IKEA to become an even better home furnishing retailer in the future.
Help us shape the future of IKEA’s retail experience
This role belongs to a group called Retail Concept Operations, which covers multiple areas of responsibility, one of which is Digital Capabilities, where this team resides.
We’re on a journey to build smarter, more connected Customer Meeting Points (CMPs) through data. As a Software Engineering Leader, you’ll lead the development of a modern data foundation that powers decision-making and digital products across IKEA.
You’ll work hands-on with architecture, data engineering, and product development—while guiding a team and collaborating across functions. This is a chance to make a real impact in how IKEA grows and serves millions of customers worldwide.
The CMP data foundation will be a critical part of our ecosystem, supporting several use cases related to the CMP and overall IKEA retail establishment process, as well as the performance of CMP and Franchisees.
About you…
Since this position is a leader role, we think you are good at leading others as well as yourself, with inclusiveness and togetherness at the heart and you possess interpersonal skills and are adept at explaining and presenting.
You believe that creating great digital products means they are fit for purpose, and that data and software engineering support the business.
You have extensive software, data engineering, and data architecture experience, having worked with architecture functions and other engineers, and you are curious to learn new things.
Finally, we believe you are ready to roll up your sleeves and be fully hands-on in establishing the overall data architecture and building data products.
As a Software Engineering leader in CMP data foundation, you will:
Be accountable for engineering and data architecture within the CMP data foundation team, but also aligning engineering work across different teams
Be the one who leads by example in working hands-on on the solutions, day to day
Collaborate with digital architecture to ensure the overall solution and implementation from a technical engineering perspective fit together in the scope of the domain, aligned with broader IKEA strategies and directions.
Act as an ambassador for data engineering, data architecture, and security best practices in the domain and across the organisation.
Do the onboarding of new engineers in the CMP data foundation team
Contribute to exploring and developing new technologies to improve the data foundations’ performance and reliability, as well as promote stack evolution in the architecture strategic roadmaps.
Act as a senior contributor to the broader technology organisation, expected to represent technology internally within IKEA and externally in the market.
You will:
Establish and own data models and data transformations: partitioning/cluster strategy, incremental models, materialized views, snapshots, and tests.
Establish the data foundation infrastructure and DevOps principles, such as using Kubernetes: design and implement infrastructure, including pods, containers, and Docker images to support data science models.
In addition, we believe that you have:
· Minimum 10 years of data architecture and data engineering experience
· Minimum 3 years of hands-on data engineering and data product creation, in line with data mesh principles
· Strong familiarity with Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
· Experience in agile and domain-driven product development.
